Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives

Overcoming Industrial Challenges: Bostik’s Innovative Structural Adhesives. Engineered with exceptional technical properties to meet the highest standards

Why use SAF and FIT structural adhesives and what Bostik MMA Brings you?

Designed with patented methacrylate technology, our SAF range shows unmatched performance in term of resistance, flexibility, durability and resistance to lots of chemicals. These adhesives have been designed for bonding a wide range of dissimilar substrates including metals and
plastics as well as composite materials for industrial applications. The outstanding properties of the SAF range allow structural bonding while keeping flexibility and fatigue resistance. From the flexible range (400% elongation) to the hyper-structural (30% elongation), they show open times from one minute to 90 minutes to fit your specific needs.

What are the differences between SAF & FIT and Standard Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives?

High Flow & Thixotropy

Formulated with high thixotropic properties, SAF and FIT range offer no sagging, excellent shaping, and less quantity used for gap filling.

This combination of High Flow and Thixotropic benefits improves:

  Workability
  Process efficiency
  Cost-in-use

Impact Resistance

This video shows the differences between SAF and FIT MMA and Standard MMA through impact resistance lab test.

Strong impact resistance improves

  Durability
  Aesthetics
  Safety

Elongation & Flexibility

SAF ranges have exceptional elongation properties more than 8 times higher than standard MMA while keeping high bonding strength. Through flexibility test, SAF & FIT demonstrate high flexibility that helps to avoid read-through and absorb differential expansion/contraction of the substrates.

This combination of elongation and flexibility benefits improves:

  Aesthetics
  Process efficiency
  Durability

Visual Monitoring of the Reactivity

SAF & FIT enables fast and visual mixing control with black hardener, and polymerization mixing control with white hardener. They also offer short handling time while having a long open time.

Reactivity property improves:

Workability
Higher production speed
Cost-in-use

Advantages of MMA Structural Adhesives Compared to Other Technologies

Mechanical Fasteners
Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives (MMAs)
  • Greater durability (mechanical fasteners can loosen/fail with time) Even distribution of stress over the entire bonded surface
  • Less labour-intensive (increased productivity)
  • Lower weight
  • Corrosion-free
  • Gap filling
  • Better aesthetics
Welding
Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives (MMAs)
  •  Far less expensive (no post-finishing work required)
  • Can be used with dissimilar materials Easier to use and less labour-intensive (increased productivity)
  • Corrosion-free
  • Better aesthetics (no distortion due to heat)
  • Bonding difficult to access areas
Polyurethanes (PU)
Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives (MMAs)
  •  High bond strength and good impact resistance
  • Large gap fills, less sensitive to the environment
  • Good chemical and environmental resistance
  • Fast cure speed
  • Minimal health risks (non-isocyanate)
